DATE: 7-December-2008 I am a proficient when it comes to using Windows. I have used Windows since version 3.11. I am proficient because I use Windows every day. I have for over ten years. Two and half years ago I developed an interest for Linux. I have toyed with Linux off and on over the past two and half years. I downloaded several Linux distributions; burned CD's and ran these live CD's. About a year ago I decided to take closer look at Linux. I started to look for distributions that could be installed on USB drives. This idea came shortly after I started carrying and using portable applications. I thought why carry portable applications when I can carry a whole operating system? I am currently running Slax Linux on a 2GB Toshiba USB drive. Slax Linux is a modern distribution and features a pre-configured Samba, recognizes the host systems hard drive and USB drives. This makes sharing data between operating systems possible. Recently, I installed TinyMe on an old Dell Laptop in hopes that I would start using Linux on a regular basis. I have come to the realization that unless I start using Linux on a regular basis I will not become proficient. Linux, whether working off of my USB drive or laptop, Linux must become my primary focus. Most Linux distributions come with more than enough applications to get your chores done. Linux is another world to me and there is very little need to have to be tied to Windows any longer. Linux is another world to be explored and another world to be conquered. I believe I have found two Linux distributions that I will stick with, at least for the time being. My hope now is to use these two diverse distributions and become proficient in Linux. |
