Specify a Drive Letter for each of your USB Devices

Although designated hard and optical drive letters don't normally change removable USB drive letters, depending on how many devices you have plugged in, change each time you plug them in. You can designate a unique drive letter for each one of your USB devices. There are a total of twenty-six drive letters available. The drive letters available depend on how many hard drives and partitions as well as optical drives you already have installed. If the drive letter is not being used by the system it is open game. You can even use B the drive letter that has traditionally been reserved for a second floppy drive can be pressed into service.

Floppy drive what's that?

Computer Management Console

Right click on My Computer and choose Manage. Click on Disk Management in the left pane. Down in the bottom right pane, scroll through the list of drives to find your drive. Right click on the drive and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths. When the Change Drive Letter and Paths dialog appears click change. Choose a letter that is not in use. To help distinguish each device I like to choose a letter that corresponds with the name of the drive. A Toshiba USB drive is assigned ‘T” and my Western Digital hard drive received ‘W’.
