Mix Your Own Custom Colors in Dreamweaver

ColorCop

Although I tested this in Dreamweaver these techniques can be used in verity of image and web editors. To complete this project you are going to need to download a copy of Color Cop. Color Cop is a color picker that lets you isolate colors of digital images down to the pixel level.

With modern monitors able to produce 24 and 32 bit color, that is millions of color variations, web developers really don’t have to worry too much about using web safe colors. Web safe colors were the original 216 pallet of colors that were rendered by the monitors of that time.

All colors are made-up of different variations of three basic colors: Red, Green, and Blue. With Color Cop you can pick any color that you like from web pages or digital images. Using the color picker, pick a color from the page or image and Color Cop will produce RGB values and the hexadecimal number for the color selection. Simply attach the color value to the proper CSS style.

CSS Class

You can customize the color by tweaking the R-G-B values and using the corresponding hexadecimal number like you were directed above.

Reminding Dreamweaver about the Type of File it was working on

When naming files using the period between characters make sure that you add the. html extension to the end of the file name. Dreamweaver seems to forget the type of file you were working on. A file named 7.25.08_Dreamweaver becomes an unknown file type. Dreamweaver has to be reminded of the type of file it was working on. Adding the (.html ) extension seems to work.

Double Click your Dreamweaver Snippets

Dreamweaver Snippets are saved bits of code that can be inserted anywhere on your webpage. Dreamweaver includes several built-in Snippets that include navigation bars, JavaScript routines, Form elements, ECT.

Although Snippets can be dragged to a location of your choice, the other day I accidently double clicked on a Snippet that I had created and was surprised that the Snippet was entered into my page. Just make sure that your insertion point is in the correct location before double clicking.

Dreamweaver Quirk?

I have been updating this site and have been moving files around a bit. When I renamed a document into a new directory I was prompted by Dreamweaver to update links; the links being any images and other content that might have been linked from other directories (like my assets folder). All links were updated except for the background image. I could have recoded and pointed the link back to root folder, but I did wonder why Dreamweaver did not update this image along with the others. Suspecting a quirk in Dreamweaver and sort of remembering something like this happening to me in the past I decided to copy the background image into the new directory.

Embed an Excel Spreadsheet and Chart in Dreamweaver

When using an application suite reusing content has always been a synch. Microsoft Office has many integration features that allow you to share data from other applications seamlessly. Create a spreadsheet in Excel and import the data into Access or copy and paste it into PowerPoint. Sharing information between other programs other than those found in a suite hasn’t always been that easy though.

Fortunately Dreamweaver makes it easy to share data from Microsoft Excel. Open Dreamweaver and the spreadsheet you want to copy. Select the cells that you want copied, click copy and make Dreamweaver active. Click Edit and Paste Special. Choose “Text with structure plus full formatting”. You can also copy an Excel chart into Dreamweaver however you will need to use Word as an intermediary. Copy the chart from Excel into Word then copy the chart from Word into Dreamweaver.

Beware of Dreamweaver's Double Characters

Dreamweaver CS3 has a nasty habit of entering double characters when you run a spell-check. I have noticed it when spell-check encounters contractions. Wasn't becomes wasn't,t. I cannot say that I have noticed this in earlier versions.
